Temperatures are rising, and it’s only getting hotter with each day that passes. Don’t worry, though! There are plenty of ways to get relief from the heat and stay cool all season long. Check out these helpful tips below.
1. Shut It Down
Give your oven a break. Instead of using this appliance to cook your meals, use a stovetop, microwave or even on an outdoor grill. By taking this small step, you will prevent your kitchen from overheating. And luckily, there are plenty of delicious foods you can make without even having to fire up your oven.
2. Stay Hydrated
Drink lots of fluids. When you’re dehydrated, you start losing moisture and your body temperature goes up, causing you to feel the heat around you even more. Try to avoid drinks that contain alcohol, as well as caffeine and sugar. These types of beverages pull water from the body, leaving you dehydrated.
3. Go Swimming
Throw on your favorite swimsuit, grab a cover up, and head to the nearest pool. Swimming is not only a great way to stay active throughout the summer months, but also cools you down instantly. If you don’t have a pool in your backyard, look into joining a local aquatic center. There, you’ll get to meet new people and still beat the heat. Maybe you’ll even want to join a water fitness class (we have chlorine resistant swimwear just for that)!
4. Rise and Shine
During the summer, it’s hard to completely avoid being outside and taking in the intense heat. The sun’s rays are typically strongest in the afternoon, so be sure to complete any outdoor chores or activities in the morning hours. This way, you’ll experience lower temperatures with less humidity in the air.
5. Get Low
We’ve heard it time and time again, but hot air rises. To avoid feeling overheated this summer, spend as much time as possible in your basement. In fact, this room can be anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the main level of your home, which makes a world of difference during any heatwave.
When the forecast calls for 90 degree-plus temperatures, don’t sweat it! There are ways to remain cool this season. What are your favorite tricks for beating the heat? Share with us in the comments!
