With summer just around the corner, it’s time to get ready for some fun in the sun. If you’re the sporty type, you are probably dusting off your paddle board or surfboard right about now. Water sports are a terrific way to enjoy the water and boost your fitness.
Here’s our top 10 list of water sports for 2019. Why not try a new one this summer?
- Lap Swimming
There’s nothing more invigorating than a good swim to start off your day right. Whether you swim in an indoor pool or an outdoor pool, the workout feels great. For avid swimmers, we recommend our line of chlorine resistant swimsuits. Designed to last 5 to 10 times longer than regular swimwear, chlorine resistant swimwear is a smart choice.
- Paddle Boarding
Stand-up paddle boarding is becoming more and more popular. You can paddle board on lakes and bays, and some people even enjoy paddle boarding in the ocean or along rivers. For paddle boarding, we recommend a tankini top with boy shortsif you want support and flexibility. You will look incredible paddling along under the sun’s warm rays.
- Surfing and Bodyboarding
Surfing and bodyboarding are time-tested water sports that are popular at nearly every seaside location. Beginners can take lessons and practice in a gentle surf. Or if you’re a serious athlete, you may be ready for the big time. Be sure to wear a wet suit if you’re surfing in cold waters, or a rash guard if you’re swimming in warmer water. Before you know it, you’ll be ready to hang ten!
- Boogie Boarding
Too scared to try surfing in the big waves? Boogie boarding in the shallower surf is the next best thing! You’ll want to wear a swimsuit that covers your tummy, like a tankini or one-piece. Or better yet, use a rash guard to protect your skin from irritation. And don’t forget your sunscreen!
- Water Aerobics and Water Yoga
If you want a great workout, water aerobics or water yoga may be your answer. Water aerobics not only gives you a heart-pumping workout, but can also tone your arms and legs. Looking for something gentler? Water yoga is perfect for your flexibility, relaxation, and range of motion. We suggest a chlorine resistant one piece or tankini for your next water aerobics or water yoga class.
- Snorkeling
If you’re lucky enough to visit a tropical resort, you won’t want to miss snorkeling. You will be amazed at the colorful reefs and vibrant sea life. Most snorkeling tours are fairly relaxing, so you can wear anything from a classic one-piece to a show-stopping bikini. Be sure to bring a cover up in case you’re chilly on the way back to the resort.
7. Kayaking and Canoeing
Kayaking and canoeing are great forms of exercise and a fun way to enjoy nature, as you paddle through the gentle waters of the bay or river. For boating sports where you sit on a hard bench, you might feel most comfortable in boy shorts or board shorts. Get ready to feel the sun on your back and take in the views.
- Water Skiing and Wakeboarding
Ever try water skiing? It’s a thrill to be tugged by a motor boat, and even more exciting if you’re able to stay on your feet! Wakeboarding is similar to water skiing, but like snowboarding, wakeboarders use a single board instead of skis. You can wear your favorite swimsuit or board shorts for water skiing. Just be sure to hang on tight!
- Tubing: Free Floating or Towed
Want a relaxing water sport? Tubing fits the bill. You can enjoy time with your friends and family as you drift lazily down the river in a tube. Or, if you’ve got a friend with a motor boat, towed tubing is super fun too. For towed tubing, you might want to wear a one piece swimsuit, so the suit doesn’t ride up if you wipe out!
- Jet Skiing
For people who want to zip around the bay at max capacity, jet skiing is the way to go. Many resorts have jet ski rentals, so why not try it this summer? The best swim suit option? Go for a tankini top with board shorts or wet suit shorts for comfort and coverage. Then you’re ready to rev up the engine!
If you’re looking for adventure this summer, the water is the place to be. For all water sports, remember safety first! Be sure to wear a life jacket when appropriate, put on plenty of sunscreen, and use your best judgment when trying new sports. Whether you’re swimming in a pool, kayaking in a like, or surfing in the ocean, you will love taking life by the reins!
