‘Tis the season for weddings! And what better place to celebrate love than the beach? Normally when we picture this joyous occasion, we think of women dressed to the nines in fancy gowns, extravagant jewelry and sky-high heels. But that’s not typically the case with beach weddings. They’re much more casual, so check out our tips below to keep in mind when dressing for a seaside ceremony.
1. Be Prepared
While beach weather is usually warm and breezy, that’s not always a given. The weather can be unpredictable, as you never know when a storm or heat wave will roll through. To best prepare for whatever comes your way, take a look at the weather beforehand and dress accordingly. We suggest wearing light fabrics like cotton or chiffon. They’ll help you stay cool in the sun and won’t stick to your skin. Don’t forget to also pack a sweater or wrap for when temperatures cool down in the evening.
2. Shine Bright
Always opt for light and bright colors. Beach weddings are known for being fun and upbeat, so choose an outfit that delivers this kind of vibe. Dare to be bold. Wear a sundress that features floral prints or shades like yellow, orange or pink. You can even rock a beach cover up here like a maxi dress or jumpsuit. While often paired with a swimsuit, these styles can actually be worn all on their own. Remember, it’s a happy occasion, so your attire should be just as sunny.
3. Go Natural
Less is best. While you may be tempted to pull off a smokey eye or dark lipstick, we recommend sticking with light makeup. Heavy makeup can be hard to uphold in the heat, often smudging throughout the day. With natural makeup, you’ll still make a statement without having to worry about touching up constantly. If you really want to add a pop to your look, go with a coral lip color or pastel eyeliner.
4. Keep It Simple
When you’re at a wedding, you can expect to have your photo taken over and over again. Of course you’ll want your hair and makeup to look picture perfect at all times, but be practical here. Pick a hairstyle that is flattering, but won’t get in your way. Updos are ideal for a beach wedding since they keep your hair off of your neck and in place for hours on end. If you have long hair, you can even pin it back with some bobby pins or a pretty clip.
