Let's face it— it can be difficult to live a healthy lifestyle when it's far more convenient to take the quick and easy approach. With fast food restaurants on every street corner, our days being spent sitting at a computer at day jobs, and the busy lives we live, it can seem daunting to embark on a more healthy lifestyle path.
But, believe it or not, there are several quick and easy ways to live a healthier lifestyle without making a huge effort. Check out these useful tips on how to go about doing so.
Instead of running out for fast food during the day for lunch, pack your lunch every day. Pack a healthy sandwich or salad with snacks like fruit, yogurt and low sodium pretzels, which are less fattening than potato chips. Be sure to use wheat bread instead of white bread, and add veggies like lettuce, tomatoes and avocado to your sandwich. By avoiding heavy, greasy foods with little nutritional value not only will you get a healthier lunch in, but you will avoid that lackluster, low energy slump you can feel after lunch.
Get Out and Play
When you get home from work, if the weather is nice then forgo sitting in front of the TV and instead take a brisk walk, take the dog to the park, or ride your bicycle. Not only will you burn calories and help build muscle, you'll get some great fresh air which invigorates and rejuvenates you. Take the whole family.
When at the grocery store, there are some easy tips to keep in mind to make sure you go home with healthier foods. An easy tip to keep in mind is to focus more on the outside aisles of the grocery store. For example, the produce aisle, meat aisles and dairy aisles are all on the perimeter of the store, while the processed foods are in the middle aisles. Processed foods have less nutritional value and are full of preservatives.
Add Some Color and Flavor
An easy tip to keep in mind when grocery shopping, cooking and eating: eat colorful. Nutritional foods are colorful. For example, strawberries, spinach, bell peppers and bananas are all bright in color and chock full of nutrients and anti oxidants. Wheat bread, brown rice and raw sugar are all brown in color as opposed to white bread, white rice and white sugar which are far less healthy.
